Overnight we’ve found ourselves housebound. Our social calendars have come to a halt - substituted with activities centred around three rooms in our homes. We’re still working from home. We’ve been living in loungewear. We’re limited to physical interaction and a near total lack of stimulation. Even on the most mundane of days, let’s shake them up with a few healthy practises that elevate our moods, our bodies, and our spirits.
Playing Dress-up
Done daily or even weekly, is a quick way to lift your mood in lieu of socializing in the outside world. Dress for yourself. Snap out of your covicoma. Putting on something fancy will convince you there are better times ahead. Some of your clothes will remind you of really good times and spur memories and moments. All dressed up with nowhere to go has suddenly taken on meaning. Get silly and have some fun with it - we seem not to do this enough as adults. Put on some pink voluminous tulle or sport a loud velvet smoking jacket whilst taking out the trash or running out to greet your mid-week Amazon delivery. Clothes can dramatically change your mood. They have an ability to be emotive.
With summer collapsing into fall, this is also a great time to reassess what you’re holding on to. Go through your wardrobe and mend items that need mending, sell what you can part with, and donate what you haven’t worn in the last three years. Rid the old, make way for the new.
Up-level Your Water
Adding wellness boosters like grapefruit, lemon, rosemary, mint, blueberries, thyme, ginger, strawberries and basil to your water add nutritional value, health benefits, and amplifies flavour. Pick three. I love grapefruit + lemon + rosemary. Hydrate more. Daily goal: half your bodyweight in pounds is the minimum number of ounces you should consume each day. Start your morning with a large glass to rehydrate and re-alkalize your body.
Do A Little Shui
Feng Shui expert Amanda Gibby Peters of www.simpleshui.com asserts that what we experience in life is often reflected energetically in our surroundings. Peters believes this work triggers opportunities, enhances potential for success, and reconnects us with our wisdom to influence positive change. Home improvement = self improvement. So, if you’re ready to welcome positive change and abundance, here are some of my favourite and effective Feng Shui tips + tricks to get things moving.
Sweep, mop, dust, remove anything under the bed, open windows, light some palo santo, light a candle, buy fresh flowers & change the water every day. Clean your windows. De-clutter every drawer, cabinet, shelf, and closet.
Ring a bell in every room to keep energy moving and say what you want in your life. Make this a ritual morning/night. Say “Universe send me this…”
Sweep under the front door mat - better yet, refresh with a new one, wash down the front door, make your entrance inviting.
Move 27 things around in your space to really shake things up energetically. Make 1 or 2 of these items larger furniture pieces.
Rid everything you don’t use, don’t love, are indifferent to, or anything that’s broken. Fix any squeaks, creaks and leaks. Rid any plants that aren’t thriving. Toss everything that no longer resonates with you. Think less, but better. Make floors off limits for items.
Add some sea salt to a bowl, leave out for 24hrs then remove from your home. Sprinkle some sea salt in your wallet.
Rid tokens of past relationships, keep some empty hangers in your closet, make sure to have a pair of bedside tables, invest in expensive beautiful bed linens. Don’t keep a TV, mirrors, photos of only one person or of children in your bedroom.
