This is my little Hugo trim, taut and terrific, sporting a blue silk scarf and living his best life. He’s smothered with love everyday and this includes lots of smooching!

We already know having a pet reduces stress, anxiety, and blood pressure + boosts our mood. Owning a pet can also beef up your immune system. Dogs share much of their bacteria with their owners - leading to greater bacterial diversity. Exposure to a variety of microbes builds a stronger immune system. Dog germs are good for you!

Epidemiological studies show children who grow up with dogs in the home have far less immune-related illnesses such as asthma and allergies. Exposure to dog micro-organisms in the early stages of life when one’s immune system is still developing, helps stimulate the system preventing immune sensitivities later in life.

“Exposure to animal bacteria may trigger bacteria in our gut to change how they metabolize the neurotransmitters that have an impact on mood and other mental functions,” Dr. Jack Gilbert, director of the Microbiome Center at the University of Chicago. Dogs play an essential role in both your mental and physical health.
