Movement. Magnesium. Meditation.

To help you relax, and support mental health + mood, you need to move and meditate everyday, and take 400-1,200mg of magnesium glycinate at bedtime. Magnesium (Mg) is a natural non-addictive way of calming the body and nervous system.

I can’t think of better time to crank up health-centric practises than now. Exercise plays a critical role in feeling good and supporting the immune system. Even though we are still working from home there are numerous fitness gurus doing daily sweat sessions on Instagram. No equipment necessary, and there is something for all levels of fitness. This excites me because working out is as accessible as your Friday night take-away order. Many fitness Instagram accounts do live-streaming, so there is a sense of community here, and this is something we all need right now.

A Word On Magnesium:

Magnesium is critical for reducing stress, combatting fatigue, and aiding in sleep. Serotonin is dependent on magnesium. Lack of magnesium leads to excessive stress, elevated cortisol levels in the blood, inflammation, and inadequate levels of serotonin. Serotonin is one of the most important neurotransmitters influencing mental health. A large body of evidence supports the association between low serotonin levels and psychiatric disorders. This magical mineral is often deficient in our bodies which can lead to fatigue, excess stress, low energy, muscle tension, cramps, spasms, anxiousness, nervousness, and the inability to sleep. Magnesium is a natural sedative and muscle relaxant. Take in the evening close to bedtime.

Chill Out Already

Most of us aren’t aware of what we’re thinking. Our thoughts run rampant all day long and we’re certainly not in control of it. Our minds are out of control and we’re at the mercy of our immediate reactions. Meditation is a way to train the mind from wandering most of the time. During this highly unsettling time of chaos, tragedy, trauma, adversity, fear, and more uncertainty than ever, moment-to-moment awareness is exactly what’s needed to stay present and calm. It’s going to get us through day by day. Helping us live in the present rather than worrying about the future or reacting negatively to what’s going on around us. Meditation needs to be a daily ritual. It’s a small moment in the day to just be present. It’s a wonderful, and magical little practise of self care. Take 5 minutes out of the 1,440 minute day to do something incredibly helpful and healthy for yourself. The benefits are numerous, and they are long scientifically known.

The Queen:

I’m going to say one name. Megan Marie Gates from @spirit.song That’s all. Climb into bed, earbuds in and just listen. If your body doesn’t melt, your mind stills, and you aren’t lulled into the most peaceful state of being from her voice, and the reverberating sounds and vibrations of instruments then I don’t know what to say. And I’m rarely ever at a loss for words!
