Meditation profoundly affects every aspect of our lives - our bodies, our minds, our physical health, our emotional and spiritual well-being. Practised regularly, meditation helps change how you respond to what’s happening in your life. It reduces stress, boosts creativity, makes us more compassionate, gives us clarity, reduces negative emotions, increases brain growth, enhances memory, enhances sleep, balances and supports the immune system, and helps us focus.
Meditation needs to be a daily ritual. It’s a small moment in the day to just be present. It’s a wonderful, and magical little practise of self care. Take 5 minutes out of the 1,440 minute day to do something incredibly helpful and healthy for yourself. The benefits are numerous, and they are long scientifically known.
The Headspace app is a good starting place. Also, on Instagram you’ll find live streaming meditation sessions and many saved sessions so you can meditate at your convenience. I keep raving about the talented Megan Marie Gates from @spirit.song who does the loveliest sound meditation I’ve ever experienced. Put you earbuds in, crawl into bed and you’ll be drifting off to sleep before you’re half way through. You can also very simply meditate on your own - just go to a beautiful space — a park, a walk in a quiet neighbourhood and just pay attention to the sounds, the views, the smells, and the feels around you in that very moment, moment by moment. If you find your thoughts wander gently bring your attention back to what you are experiencing in the present moment: the sounds, the smells, the feels, the beauty around you. This is easy to do when in nature. Each time your mind wanders just bring it back to the present moment.
