How-To: Easy Peasy Ways To Include Wellness In Your Life (In this new normal way of living) “Wellness is a life exemplified by abundance, happiness, purpose, health, and joy.” - Jason Wachob, author of Wellth
Move it. Source out a trendy yoga, spin, HIIT or pilates Instagram account. Many of these businesses offer free daily digital classes or trials you can do at home. It’s an incredibly supportive online community at the moment. Instagram contains endless fitness accounts across the globe who provide home workouts of all kinds for all ages and all fitness levels. Start scrolling. Alternatively, going for a run, cycle or long walk in your neighbourhood will also do the trick. Just move your body every day.
Smudge, baby, smudge. Trace a sage smudge stick counter-clockwise room by room to clear, reset, and calm the energy in your home. Don't miss window and door frames, closets, corners, drawers and cupboards. Open all of your windows before you begin. The practise dates back to prehistoric times, but science shows that burning plants like sage clears airborne bacteria.
Meditate. Guided meditations are helpful. Source online downloads, Instagram free live- streaming and apps. A regular practise 10-20 minutes a day will change your life. Meditation changes brain chemistry, and makes you a better person - more accepting, relaxed, patient and loving. It instantly calms your nervous system and brings you back to a much more grounded state.
Create a vision board. Collect pictures that inspire you - places you want to go, things you want to do or achieve, and items you'd like to have. It will help you brainstorm, organize, nurture creativity, speed up your workflow, and map out major life goals. Make sure it resides in a place you can see everyday.
Open your windows. Once a day. Fresh air supports your immune system, clears your space, and will lift your mood instantly. The air outside is healthier than the air in your home even if you live in an urban area.
Create a gratitude journal. Write in it regularly. This is the key to happiness! It will remind you of the many things that give you joy. It teaches you that what you have is enough. It trains your brain to focus on positive versus negative things, and allows great things to come into your life. If you contribute often, you will feel a major boost in happiness. Try thinking of 3 things each night before going to sleep. Don't overlook the small things we take for granted day to day. This should be very easy to do right now! Research has shown that expressing gratitude daily wards off depression, anxiety, and loneliness, boosts self-esteem, and helps cope with stress and trauma.
Connect to nature. Get outside. One of my favourite things is being outside at dusk. I love the sound of crickets and the trees rustling leaves. It is immensely therapeutic, and it will remind you that you're part of something greater than any given situation.
Buy a big green plant, and keep fresh flowers in your home. They liven up every space.
Adopt a pet. The rewards are endless, the love - priceless. There are many in need of homes right now with many people falling ill and the reality of the many lives lost. Pets are being left behind. Alternatively, fostering is also a wonderful option.
Give away what you can. Compliments, encouragement, small gifts, a written letter with kind words, or a helping hand. We all have something to give. We don’t do it enough. Many people could use help right now. What can you do right now to help your neighbours, friends, and family who are more vulnerable than you without putting yourself at risk?
